"Sakura Matsuri is springtime tradition in Japan of viewing cherry blossoms with your family.
"This is a portrait of my mom in her houndstooth coat, but also a portrait of the bond between every mother and child. The cherry blossoms are a symbol of the fleetingness of life and also, childhood, a reminder to enjoy this moment together.
"In this print, I was trying to capture the feeling of picture books I grew up with in Japan circa 1970’s. Iwasaki Chihiro was an illustrator that I’ve been studying for her drawings of children, I grew up with her books and looking at her images now I’m instantly transported to Tokyo, kindergarten, omu-rice and my own childhood"
