What would a machine used to do this look like?
As the artist pursued the answers to these questions there were inevitable subsequent questions about how someone might collect these different frequencies, what kind of devices might they use, and finally how might somebody illustrate the different results?
Through the process of proposing solutions to these questions, a full size Modular Unit was fabricated, as well as a collection of different listening devices. These objects were then installed in multiple natural environments across the Northwest, and photographed as they were connected to their surroundings.
Who is Nate Manny?
Nate Manny is a designer and artist living in Seattle.
He currently operates his boutique design studio, 51 Eggs, where he focusses on branding and packaging solutions for bars, restaurants, the music industry, and independent-minded, small businesses.
He is also a guitarist in the Seattle-based, Sub-Pop garage-punk band Murder City Devils, whose records have gone on to national acclaim and while they are semi-retired, continue to tour and sell out shows nationwide.
