This book evolved organically in 1975, and has been out of print for more than 20 years.
It a book of practical, lively advice on chicken raising that was tape-recorded from an 86-year-old farmwoman/chicken lover (Minnie Rose) on Bainbridge Island, Washington, who was dying of cancer.
Her neighbor sat down with her in the hospital, with a tape recorder, and said "Okay, Minnie Rose, now we're going to write your book."
Over the next two months, the text was then transcribed, hand-lettered and illustrated.
Not much has changed in the lives of chickens in the past 30 years, and the information is as fresh and fun to read now as it was then.
