1. Like A Rolling Stone
2. Ain't Goin' Out That Door (Sonny Boy Williamson)
3. I Went Away For A While (1984)

"Most of the other pieces were recorded as they were written-- improvised -- at Sounds Fine To Me Studio, on the same 4 track Fostex cassette deck that we used for the first Mecca Normal album."

5. In January -- 21 minute, improvised, experimental (voice without words & guitar)
6. I Don't Need To Hold Your Hand -- improvised (voice & guitar)
7. Pocket Of Scribbly Gums -- improvised instrumental
8. This Is My Summer Vacation -- a studio recording (by Dave Doughman of Swearing At Motorists) around the time we opened for the Fall, and participated in a Fall tribute show in Toronto (voice & guitar).
9. I Don't Get It -- improvised, experimental (voice & guitar)
10. Don't Look In The Mirror -- improvised (voice & guitar)
11. War Between the Neighbours -- literary, improvised at Vancouver's Hive Studio (voice, guitar & piano)
12. Elemental Steamer -- improvised instrumental

Janis Zeppelin is on Mecca Normal's label -- Smarten Up! Records -- in celebration of their 20 year anniversary. The CD is experimental... the music... the packaging... and a new studio -- Vancouver's Hive, where they have a very lively piano and the excellent engineers Jordan Koop and Colin Stewart.

Janis Zeppelin features a 21 minute version of "In January" -- the original, improvised piece that evolved into the 5:21 minute version on The Family Swan CD (Kill Rock Stars) which was named a top protest song by The Globe & Mail (Canada's national newspaper). This is very interesting, considering there isn't a single word in it. "In January" has been part of our most recent live shows, but we always imagined it to be a longer piece. When we went back to re-listen to what was recorded on the occasion of the first take, we found the guitar and voice to be effortlessly linked; trading who leads and who follows with an intuitive single-mindedness. A D Jameson is making it into a film.
